987336-梁世瓏-紀念性

The monumental buildings that I chose are The Monument to the People's Heroes (人民英雄紀念碑) in Beijing and The Crocodile pit (Lubang Buaya) in Indonesia. Monumentality in these two buildings has a contrast different to each other. What makes monumental buildings different than any other building is the special design of their outlook, the shape, the interior which emphasize the value of the building itself, the background of the buildings usually applied to these various different elements.
for the reason why I chose these two buildings is because I purposely select two buildings which has the same purpose : they were built to show respect for the heroes who had died in that accident, and sacrifice themselves to save more people, and to keep memorize their heroic service to the country and their people, these two monuments are constructed. That is the monumental value of these two buildings.
The different between them is basically from the background of the incident which caused death to those heroes, and from way they express it, the way they emphasize it, the emotion behind the monument, are all that counted in the process of building them.
For the brief explanation for each buildings are:

The Monument to the People's Heroes (simplified Chinese: 人民英雄纪念碑; traditional Chinese: 人民英雄紀念碑; pinyin: Rénmín Yīngxíong Jĭnìanbēi), Beijing, is a ten-story obelisk that was erected as a national monument of the People's Republic of China. The Monument was built in memory of the martyrs who laid down their lives for the revolutionary struggles of the Chinese people during the 19th and 20th centuries. On the pedestal of the tablet there are eight huge bas-relieves carved out of white marble covering the revolutionary episodes, which are depictions of Chinese struggle from the First Opium War in 1840 to the founding of the People's Republic in 1949. The relieves can be read in chronological order. On the front of the monument there is an inscription in Mao Zedong's handwriting, which reads "Eternal glory to the people's heroes!"

Lubang Buaya (literally "crocodile pit") is the site of the murder of seven army officers during the 1 October coup attempt of the 30 September Movement. This movement were lead by one of the ex-army officer which was fired from his position as the result of His wrong ambition and vision. The movement finally resulted as the murder of seven main officer of Indonesia government at that time, and their corpse were put inside the dug pit, which we called the crocodile pit. One of the most tragic incident had ever happened in any heroic story (killed and betrayed by their own teammate, and their corpses were treated sadistically.
The monument to the people’s heroes was built erected to the sky and built very thickly and firmly as to show the great honour of the heroes bravery, sacrifices, and built to show the proud emotion from the people to them. On the other hand, Lubang Buaya was built only a long layer of the tragic continuous reliefs of the story. The crocodile pit also preserved near it, and also one more additional statue of the Garuda Pancasila (The Indonesian national symbol) and a number of hero statues. In the sequence of the reliefs wall monument, visitor would be affected by the tragic emotion and atmosphere there, the massacre incident from the past. That is why the monument was built flatly, emphasizing a fragile and sorrow, that makes it contrastly different than the first monument.
